Here we are on Day One of the ten day tour of Ireland that Zack had planned and purchased for me, him and Gia, almost a year ago. It was going to be THE biggest surprise for her ever, and in fact, the plan had long been that we weren’t even going tell her about it until the day before we left. He had wanted to print her ticket, put it in her suitcase, and leave it on her bed so that when she returned home from His house that night she would have gone upstairs only to find that, “SURPRISE … Start packing daughter! We’re going to Ireland in the morning!” Her very first trip to Europe … and HE was the one to do it!
In case you haven’t figured it out by now, on top of all the countless other things that man did for her, perhaps one of the greatest legacies he left are the many adventures in travel. From the time we got married, he took us on at least three trips a year, and sometimes more if you could all the little weekend excursions to EVERYWHERE we could possibly drive. Keep in mind that in our decade together (and still to this day), “real dad” has never taken her on a single trip ANYWHERE! But that’s another story for a different time. My point being, of course, that it truly was par for the course for him to be the one to first take her to Europe, and FIRST CLASS to boot! In light of the circumstances, of course, and having already missed the September trip to Switzerland, I wasn’t sure I’d be able to do this one either. But, alas, after much soul searching, I went ahead and decided to go, and even managed to get American Airlines to let Christian join us on Zack’s ticket. As it turns out, this was probably one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. It’s SO nice to be here with just my two babies. WE NEEDED THIS SO MUCH!
